Volunteer Opportunity - February

My church inspires me.  It's makes me think about how I live my life and how I want to live my life.  It sets me on the right track mentally and spiritually for the week on the weekends I am able to make it to service.  The songs (the words in the songs) seem to be little lessons themselves.  The pastors challenge us to wake up every morning with positive thoughts.  Appreciative thoughts.  The saying "This is the day the Lord has made" has been given a new meaning to me after I began to attend this church.  It was no longer just a song that I used to sing during Catholic mass with no reflection whatsoever on what the words meant.

I decided to give my time for my February volunteer challenge to my church.  It was close to my home and close to my heart.  I volunteered for the Children's Ministry today.  Normally, if I would have had the desire to do this on my own without this New Year's resolution, I would have taken the easy route and served in the babies rooms.  Babies are easy, you just sit there and hold them.  So I decided to really challenge myself by serving in the preschool room where I would have to interact with the kids and answer questions.

All germs aside, I was extremely happy I gave my time.  They let the kids play for about a half hour.  Then a song about picking up toys is played and the kids get all excited and start picking up the room.  They then gather around for a DVD lesson for the morning.  This one was about Superheros and how Jesus is one.  Once the DVD is over, they divide up into groups and go over the lesson and do a craft that relates to the lesson.  Kids are just hilarious.  One time during the video, some kid just randomly shouted out that he had gummy worms last night and his dad had cheese.  Another kid became attached to me and had to sit on my lap during the video.  And let me tell you, this kid was sure excited about "grabbing lunch" after church.  :)  Another little girl brought me some bracelets she found.  I'm not sure why she randomly selected me because she had to pass about three other volunteers to get to me.  As it turns out, the bracelets belonged to another little girl who promptly informed me of that right after the video.  Kids are just funny - totally worth my time although I felt like I needed to shower when I got home to cleanse myself of all the runny noses, sneezes and dirty hands.

I am enjoying the new experiences my volunteering is bringing me each month.  It will be fun to pick something for March now!
