Bills... Sweet!

Our MidAmerican bill is $40 less this month.  Wow-so grateful I had MidAmerican come out to our house and give me some tips!!

I found him like this after library time when I checked on him while looking at books.  It melts my heart because I love to read too.

Locks of Love

I donated my hair to Locks of Love the other week.  It had been a year and a half since I have had anything done to my hair, so it felt great to chop it off and get some color on it.  I hope to do it more regularly now.  Although I wouldn't mind donating again - it feels good to help!  We don't have extra income for charities right now, so it's always fun to do good and free stuff, like donate blood and now Locks of Love!  I also found a new salon that I will be going back to - totally worth the drive to old WDM!

Onto happier posts....

Here are some pictures from over the past few months...

We are gradually phasing out of naps.  It's just too much of a battle and I do like the earlier bedtime.  He fights them so hard some days and then ends up crashing around 5/5:30.  Mom knows best, he just doesn't realize it yet.  :)

I often find toys in silly places (like a monster truck in the Christmas tree and the tow truck on the tree)

He got ahold of my phone one day and I found about 40 pictures similar to this:

And this is what the toy room looks like most days

But who can be upset at this stud muffin

And this is his favorite hiding spot when we play hide-and-seek

He is in Tumble Tots at the Y right now (the 3-6 year old class which means I don't help participate, I sit and watch him).  This was his first day

And life changes again.....

It's time for an update.  I am no longer pregnant.  We went in for the six week ultrasound and everything was great.  Baby was measuring on track and had almost the same heartbeat that Brady did at that point.  We went back in for the eight week ultrasound the end of January and the baby had stopped developing.  They believed it stopped right after the six week ultrasound.  We were in shock since everything had been going so great.  Hearing the nurse say "I'm not seeing what I'm supposed to, I'm going to go get the doctor" was a phrase that I will never forget...  Exactly like when the vet said "he's ready".  We knew it was taking longer than normal as the nurse was getting the measurements and we heard her turn on the sound and didn't hear that sweet sound of the heartbeat like we heard at the six week appointment.  Knowing and hearing the heartbeat two weeks earlier had made it so so real.  Chris took the next day off and we spent it together as a family, although we were drained.  We took Brady to Frozen and out to eat, which family time always holds a special place in my heart and makes me smile even though we were sad that day.

I had the D&C two days later.  My mom came to watch Brady and I was happy I decided to do it.  I don't think I processed it though because I started to "clear out" things and cleaning closets and adding to the garage sale pile.  It was so nice of our friends and family to call and text and send flowers, a hug from my uncle that I didn't even realize how desperately I needed a hug, balloons and cookie - all those wonderful things that make a person feel so loved.  It finally hit a few days later and I was really sad for quite a few days.  No more putting a little baby in those snugly little footie PJ's, no more hearing them coo for the first time, or watching them find their hands for the first time.  No more calling mom with news like "Guess what he/she just did for the first time!".  No more holding a warm little baby that was mine.  I was sad for the loss of the baby.  We were excited to have one more child.  We loved talking about names and had even come up with ones.  We liked Stephanie Mart for a girl and I wanted Joey for a boy but agreed to Andrew Joseph so Chris could call him AJ and I could call him Joey yet.  But over time, I've realized what makes me sad probably more than anything is the loss of having more children and siblings for Brady.  This was it - this baby was our last frozen embryo.  Five years and around twenty five thousand dollars later, our family number has been decided.  We are officially a family of three.

I am ready for my body to return to normal.  Hopefully within a week or so.  That will help me move forward, getting back into a routine.  We have a lot to still look forward to and we will be OK as a family of three.  I am excited to have another summer with Brady hanging out at the pool and parks and going for picnics and not being 8/9 months pregnant.  We can dream about moving now and more financial security and fun vacations.  I will be that mom ordering Easter baskets and Christmas stockings from Pottery Barn knowing that this is it.  We will make this a great year and knowing Brady's personality, he will thrive.  And best of all, he has lots of little cousins his age, so he will be surrounded by family no matter what.

I feel like I went on a personal journey last year.  I learned to be accountable for my own actions.  I learned about the power of positive thinking.  And I've grown so much spiritually that I know and believe that while we make decisions to control our "life", our journey is predetermined and guided by Him.  I'm not angry, I'm not mad, I'm not asking why (although I do get frustrated thinking about some people who have kids and can't really handle them when I feel like I would love more kids and could handle them. :))  I'm OK.  We'll be OK.  Life is still amazing and awesome and we feel so incredibly blessed to have our silly, goofy and sweetheart of a three year old.  I'm so grateful we decided to have me stay home with Brady and not wait until the second child came.  I've been given so many great years with him that I'll never get again.  I'm glad I didn't miss out on him growing up.

Brady has been such a wonderful addition to our family - the one out of eighteen eggs that survived.  All the shots, thousands of shots over the years that had to be given a certain time every day, all the pills and hormones and catheter in my stomach and being so severely dehydrated that it took three tries and two nurses to find my pulse, going on short term disability, having a bad reaction to the nausea medicine, getting doses of nausea medication that they give to chemo patients, all the appointments, ultrasounds, blood work that had to be done, all the dreams over the past five years about how big our family would be someday, all the trips to Bauders, all that bad bad stuff that I want to scream sometimes just thinking about.  And yet, I'm glad I went through that as I am comforted and have a great appreciation in knowing that it gave us Brady - our best gift yet.

And look at this picture - sheer joy

2014!!!

The past two years, I have decided to not have "lose weight" as my New Year's resolution.  I had that as my resolution for so many years and was constantly disappointed in myself.  It has been exciting to say that the past two years I have been successful in my resolutions!!  It pays to refocus a little!!  In 2013, I wanted to celebrate things.  Chris and I have been horrible at that over the years.  We celebrated Valentines Day (with Brady of course :)).  We went out to eat and bought a new treadmill.  Exciting stuff!!  We sent Brady to Carroll for our birthdays and went out and had such a fun night downtown.  And we went out to eat somewhere new (with Brady of course :)) for our 10 year anniversary.  Success!!  I have to say though that my resolution for 2012 was LIFE CHANGING.  I wanted to be more positive and verbalize every day something positive.  I 100% believe in the power of positive self talk/thoughts.  That has changed my life.  I see the positive, not the negative now.  I am more grateful, happy, content.  The glass is 95% of the time half full for me and it used to be the opposite!!  I love how this has changed my life.  I hope that's one quality Brady picks up from me!

I have a page of resolutions for 2014, but I won't be overwhelmed.  They are just a guide this year.  A few things are even related.  Finances - this year was financially tough.  We need to get rid of some debt we acquired and I am sticking to an iron-clad budget.  No matter what.  With a baby on the way and a 10 year old house starting to need some tender, loving care, we can't afford to be frivolous.  I would also like to tithe (even just a minimal amount).  I want to volunteer more and sometimes do this with Brady or as a family.  I want more "family dinners" with TV off, prayer before, talk about our day and teach Brady to clear his dishes and proper table manners.  His wife will thank me someday for the clearing table part.  :)  I want Brady potty trained soon, but he's just not getting it.  Maybe we'll try it again in a few weeks.  I hope to get Brady signed up for a two-day preschool.  I want to tackle more house projects that need to be done and of course, I want us to all be more active and healthy, like always.  I want to get Brady on Juice Plus vitamins too since he is such a poor eater, but I need to look into the cost.  Last year was a big year for us with a new vehicle, the loss of our dear Drake and fertility treatments.  This year will be a big year too!!!  We are going to make it a great one though!!

On a side note, I've turned my addiction to Facebook into a positive thing,  I've decided to control / filter what I see on my Homepage in a positive, healthy way.  I'm pretty sure people think it's weird all the health/food/fitness people I 'Like' and Follow on Facebook but I love seeing all the healthy food and tips as I scroll through instead of all the Pinterest (fattening) recipes, etc.  I could never get rid of Facebook because let's face it, I'm a gossiper and love thinking and discussing human behavior so being able to keep up on everybody is fascinating to me.  :)

We had MidAmerican come to our house to do a home check.   Our house does need some work, but our habits are BIG TIME money wasters.  We have a lot of work to do.
